Without a doubt, here are my favorite local spots that I often visit during my sessions in the Greater Detroit Area. Let's jump right into it, shall we?

Maybury State Park

Northville, MI

Maybury State Park is my go-to for many things, including hiking, running, and biking. It definitely is one of a kind gem in the area. You'll be amazed to find a variety of environments; ponds, forest, open field, horse farm, and more. Maybury is very well known among other creatives in the area. There is a chance we will run into other photographers during our session, but don't you worry, there is plenty of room for everyone.

Maybury spreads across 1,000 acres of rolling terrain and open meadows. You can enter the park from two different sides, depending on where you are coming from.

Check out Eight Mile Road Entrance if you have a thing for meadows, or Beck Rd Entrance if you envision more of a forest-y backdrop. Both locations are equally stunning.

Historic Plymouth

Downtown, Plymouth

Not an outdoorsy cat, I gotcha. Plymouth is a modern yet historic small town just thirty minutes outside of Detroit, Michigan. Stroll through a beautiful Kellogg Park, sit by a fountain, or use the iconic Penn Theater as your backdrop. Besides the standard small-town feel, I love Plymouth for its alleys. I think you'll like it too. Let's discover the hidden alleys of Plymouth together.

Island Lake State Rec. Area

Brighton, Michigan

This 4,000-acre park offers trails for hiking, biking, and a few lakes for swimming. It's truly perfect for any outdoor activity. During summer, you'll be able to catch a glimpse of the training regimen of many triathletes as they tend to use Island Lake to prepare for their next race. Still, you can find many secluded areas for some uninterrupted time (hint: engagement sessions.)

Orchards & Cider MIll

Plymouth, Michigan

Come fall, this place is swarming with cider and doughnut lovers. Hot spot to visit during the fall, especially when the leaves are changing.

Mt. Brighton

Brighton, Michigan

Looking for a unique way to celebrate an occasion? You'll most certainly find it at Mt. Brighton. Just wait until you see the view from the very top of the mountain. MESMERIZING! Fresh air and the 360-view panorama are bound to take your breath away.

Kensington Metropark – West boat launch

Brighton, Michigan

Kensington Metropark covers a wide area of land, and let me tell you it's so dang beautiful. Whether it's scorching hot or the ground is covered in snow, Kent Lake is equally gorgeous in all 4 seasons. I strongly urge you to go see for yourself.

I love flying my drone in Kensington Metro Park – especially at the West Boat Launch area. There is a small airport nearby, Oakland/Southwest Airport - Oakland County, Michigan. Pilots, be sure to practice safety and make all the appropriate calls when planning your flight.

What's your favorite spot? Let me know (if it's not too big of secret), I'll be more than happy to add it to the list.
